Glacial Pot Holes
Canada

The theory behind these geological wonders found on the Bruce Trail is that following the last ice age, when the glacier was receeding, there was a layer of water between the moving glacier and the rock beneath. A pebble would get lodged in the rock and start swirling under the massive pressure of the ice which, over time, create the potholes we see now. It is said that the pressure was so great that it took mere days for these pot holes to be formed.

Keep your eye out along the trail and on the face of the escarpment, you will see many more pot holes. They may be filled with rock or sheared off, but there are plenty to be found!
